We're filming EARNEST outside City Hall, or at least downtown, for certain. We don't have control over what happens in the city centre, but we can take as many precautions as possible to ensure that we have a safe and productive trip into town.
Buses and Cars:
The part of town we plan on filming in is very close to the Donegall Square West Bus and Coach station. I doubt we'll be flinging ourselves or either of our actors in front of the buses, but we do need to be very careful crossing those roads; it's the Wellington Place right in front of us and it's one of, if not
the, busiest road in Belfast.
Train:
We need to get the train into town, and I'm very familiar with the route, so I doubt there'll be many problems. But we need to stay on track, because on Sunday the trains only run once every hour, and the day goes quickly; The more daylight we have downtown, the better. If we leave my house ten minutes before we're meant to get the train, then we'll have plenty of time to catch our train, and even get a few shots of either boy waiting for the train. Of course, we will stand behind the yellow line when waiting for the train.
People:
Town will probably be busy, but we're hoping to beat most of the crowds by going in early enough on a Sunday. Hopefully no one will get in our way, and people will be polite enough to let us film in peace. Nothing in our film is extreme or outlandish, so there's a very small risk of any pedestrians getting hurt because of our filming, but we'll be careful all the same, by not taking up too much space on the path, and taking regular breaks to get out of the way and keep the space clear.
Weather:
The closer we get to summer the better the weather will be, so filming in April should give us an advantage over the sky and rain. We can't control the weather of course, so a bit of it will be down to luck. If it does rain, we'll have to film anyway - it'll be too close to exams to rearrange for the actors, and at least one of them has a job, as does Cliona. We'll have to bring umbrellas, and film it indoors, which has it's own spring of problems; from lighting to noise, but the weather looks nice that day, so I doubt we'll need to find a quiet cafe.
Equipment:
As well as the camera, we'll also have a tripod, and Jane's camera, for taking progress photos as we go along. Each of us will take turns carrying the equipment and filming, and on the train, we'll get seats near the back, where there's room to stand up the equipment without risk of anyone standing on anything. There's no guarantee we wouldn't drop anything, but we're all going to extra careful on filming day, not rush anywhere, and take our time getting to and from locations, to reduce the risk of any damage to equipment.
Actors and Production Team:
We're doing a romantic comedy slice-of-life short film, so there really isn't anything we're asking our actors to do that's gravity defying or dangerous, the same can be said about our own team, but all the same, we're still going to have to take safety measures to make sure no one gets hurt. In preparation for the film, both actors have been asked to not take any risks and to refrain from playing sports. This will decrease the chances of either of them getting sick, or injured, and hinder filming. This was also extended to Jennifer, Jane, Cliona, and myself; we all have roles to play on the actual day of filming, and we all need to be there to help out.
Filming Schedule:

Looking at weather, work schedules, exam time tables and when the town is least likely to be busy, we decided to do our filming on April 2nd, a Sunday. The weather for that day is meant to be mainly sunny, about 10 degrees, and we're hoping that choosing Sunday will stop town from being crowded.

We plan to start filming in my house at 11:00 am, giving ourselves an hour to film the opening credit scene, and the establishing shots of my house for the title card. Because we're filming on a Sunday, the train timetables are slightly different, so there's only one every hour. We'll probably be getting the 12:21 am train in, and we've given ourselves the time bracket until 5:00 pm to film, but I doubt we'll need that much time to get all our shots in. Still, it's good to have some wiggle room, in case something goes wrong and we need to retake several shots.
